Volume 7: It's OUR Year!
As we embark on football season, I hear so many fans making that ultimate declaration: “It’s OUR year!” If you’re a Dallas Cowboys fan, you know exactly what I’m talking about! A new season brings renewed hope, fresh strategies, and new opportunities to turn last season’s challenges into triumph. Teams bring in new coaches, coordinators, and players with one goal in mind: creating their best season yet! At least, that’s the plan, right?
No one ever goes in expecting subpar performances and catastrophic events resulting in a season washup. The challenge arises when poor planning, constrained budgets, and settling for second-best set the stage for a disappointing outcome before the season even begins. Falling to invest in your season leaves every victory lingering in the realm of chance as opposed to intentionality.
Similarly, fiscal planning season for your facilities is no different. Budgets are REAL and require transparency and honesty. You must be prepared for the unexpected and have a game plan for the “what ifs”. This knowledge isn’t new to any of your vendors. You might actually be surprised to learn how many would sit to understand your past experiences and develop ways to counteract expenses. Most vendors don’t ask your budget to recoup every penny and blow it. They ask to see how they can partner well considering what you are able to spend and strategize success.
As you reflect on the highs and lows of the past year, ask yourself: What created the wins? What contributed to the challenges? What could have been done differently? Take those lessons back to the drawing board. Use them to guide your budget, strengthen vendor partnerships, and make decisions that position your facility for success.
A winning season doesn’t happen by accident. It requires strategic intent, thoughtful investment, and the right team. Plan strategically. Invest wisely. Build the right partnerships. Create your winning season.
Until the next tipoff, keep changing the game.- GameChangers
